What is Scouting?

General

Troop 163 is a year-round Scouting America program for girls ages 11-18, dedicated to building character, fostering active citizenship, and promoting personal fitness. Scouting is the ultimate form of learning by doing and teaching others. Guided by dedicated adult volunteers, Scouts explore their interests and improve their skills through a dynamic outdoor program and peer leadership as they work toward achieving Scouting's highest rank: Eagle.

Founding

Troop 163 was founded on February 1, 2019 - the first day that girls could be a part of Scouting America (formerly Scouts BSA and Boy Scouts of America). We are chartered by Westover Baptist Church in Arlington, Virginia, and are part of the National Capital Area Council's Four Mile Run District. The chartered organization provides leadership, meeting facilities, encouragement, and other support as needed. Our number, 163, honors the church's history; we revived it from a second Boy Scout troop that split off from our brother troop, Troop 162, many decades ago.

Since 2019, Troop 163 has been an active troop, attracting girls from Arlington, Falls Church, McLean, Alexandria, Fairfax and beyond. Troop 163 counts as it's members, Scouts between the ages of 11 and 17 and a variety of scouting ranks working together to get the most of our scouting while upholding the Scout Oath, Scout Law, and Outdoor Code.
