Klondike Derby

Troop 163 participates in the Klondike Derby every year. 

A Klondike Derby is a wintertime Boy Scouts of America activity inspired by the historic Klondike Gold Rush. During the event, patrols compete by traveling between a series of stations that challenge their outdoor skills, teamwork, and leadership. Teams earn points at each station, which are combined for an overall score.

Each group must carry all required equipment on a sled they construct themselves, pulling it along the course as they move from station to station. Lunch will be provided on Saturday only; all other meals must be supplied by participants.

The derby is open to Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouts, and Explorers and welcomes participants of all genders. Every unit is assigned one sled and selects a team of four to eight Scouts to complete the course. Other members of the unit may watch and encourage their team, but any outside help will result in point deductions.

Youth participants may be up to age 20. Individuals ages 18–20 may register as adults if they are assisting younger Scouts as BSA Adult Members. Registration is capped at 350 participants, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
